For Post Doctoral and Staff Member applicants

Clinicians  will  have  the  opportunity  to:

  • provide CBT & DBT individual and family therapy
  • co-lead DBT adolescent multi-family & adult skills groups
  • co-lead groups for our intensive college summer program
  • conduct initial consultations
  • collaborate on consultation team
  • continue to develop their own areas of interest and expertise

We offer training with specialized, expert supervision based on applicant interests in several areas including, but not limited to, DBT for Adolescents, DBT for Adults, Behavioral Parenting Training, Couples/Family Therapy, DBT-­‐Prolonged Exposure, CBT for Anxiety and Mood Disorders, and Organizational Skills Training.  You will acquire competencies in numerous evidence-­‐based treatments! Candidates will also be able  to  select a child and adolescent-­‐focused concentration or a general  lifespan  concentration. Collaboration in research and co-­authoring manuscripts is  available for interested applicants.  We offer weekly didactics on a range of CBT and DBT topics;  we also offer multiple hours of supervision each week including individual supervision and live supervision, as well as participation on the therapist consultation team.  Staff members will have the opportunity to enhance their supervisory skills, participate in teaching, and consult with other mental health organizations/professionals as well, depending on interest.  We provide mentoring to help you build your area of expertise.     We  provide:

Dr. Rathus and colleagues developed the adolescent/family version of  DBT, which is now implemented in clinics, private practices, schools, residential treatment centers & hospitals worldwide.  She is also expert in couples therapy and CBT.  Dr. DeRosa is a national expert in the treatment of traumatic stress and co­‐developed a treatment for adolescents with complex PTSD and trains clinicians in CBT approaches around the country.

We are looking for applicants with a strong CBT background. Interest/background in child and adolescent work is a plus!  Experience with DBT is very helpful; enthusiastic desire to learn and implement  DBT is a must!  (Applicants without prior DBT training will participate in a Foundational training prior to start.)    We are a group of psychologists who love the work we do, love working together, and are driven to provide the highest quality care.  We pride ourselves on fostering a warm, fun,  and   stimulating work environment.  Located in Nassau County, Long Island, we are 1 block from the LIRR station, 30 minutes from  Manhattan.

For Extern Applicants

Externs will be afforded the following opportunities and training experiences:

  • Primary therapist for children, adolescents, adults & families, in DBT and CBT approaches
  • Assistant group leader in multi-family DBT skills group (adolescent/young adult)
  • Assistant group leader in adult DBT skills group
  • Weekly hour supervision
  • Two and a half hour weekly team consultation meeting
    • Receive additional consultation regarding your clients
    • Collaborate with 6 psychologists in a supportive setting— learn from one another’s cases
    • Experience mindfulness practice in team weekly
    • Regular didactic topics
    • Learn about the business side of private practice
  • Flexible times for scheduling your individual clients
  • Possibilities of involvement with intakes, structured interviewing, or research

The externship runs from September thru June.  Attending group on Mondays is required. The externship will be limited to 2-3 days or 16 hours per week.  Externs attend team meetings on Tuesdays.  We provide three weeks vacation/sick time.
